Obituary

Gary Hill, a longtime resident of Orange County, California, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born on June 29, 1943, to Myra and Evan Hill, Gary spent his childhood in Orange County, where he developed the determination, character, and strong work ethic that would guide him throughout his life.

Gary attended the University of Southern California, earning a degree in Business Administration while distinguishing himself as a three-year starter on the USC football team. As a member of the Trojans, he helped lead USC to the 1962 National Championship and played in the 1963 Rose Bowl. These accomplishments remained a source of pride throughout his life. Following his collegiate career, Gary played one season of professional football with the Minnesota Vikings.

After football, Gary answered another call to service by joining the United States Army, serving his country in Korea. Upon completing his military service, he built a successful career as a Financial Advisor, first with Dean Witter and later with Morgan Stanley. Known for his professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his clients, Gary enjoyed a distinguished career spanning several decades before retiring.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Gary embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm. An avid reader, he rarely passed up an opportunity to learn something new. He enjoyed challenging himself with Sudoku and crossword puzzles, pursuits that kept his mind sharp and engaged. A passionate golfer, Gary spent many enjoyable hours on the course and especially loved riding his bicycle along the beaches of Southern California, taking in the ocean views and the beauty of the coastline he proudly called home.

Gary's life was defined by perseverance, service, and achievement. Whether on the football field, in military service, or throughout his business career, he approached every endeavor with dedication and determination. Above all, he was devoted to his family. He possessed a generous heart, treasured lifelong friendships, and took great pride in the legacy he built through a life well lived.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Kathy; his son, Brad Hill, and daughter-in-law, Wendy Hill; his cherished granddaughters, Abigail and Hadley Hill; his brother, Steve Hill, and sister-in-law, Jane Hill; his brother, Craig Hill, and sister-in-law, Linda Hill; and his nieces, Jane Hill-Gibson (Terry), Julie Lewis (Bobby), Jennifer Hill, and Kelly McKelvey (Scott). He was preceded in death by his parents, Myra and Evan Hill, as well as other beloved family members who welcomed him home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 760 Victoria Street, Costa Mesa, California, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, celebrate Gary's life, and share the memories and stories that made him so special to all who knew and loved him.
